Plot
'Kimba The White Lion' is a Japanese film adapted from the animated version 'Jungle Emperor Leo'. It tells the story of Leo, a white lion who puts all his effort into protecting the animals of the African jungle. Its series was the one that fully introduced animation in Japan, which is why its release at the Japanese Film Festival Online in 4K quality is of great significance.
The first version was published for the first time in 1950 by its creator Osamu Tezuka, one of the pioneers of manga. 'Jungle Emperor Leo' was the first manga to appear complete in a magazine, and later due to its success, it was adapted to create an animated series. This was well-received, just like its original model, thus becoming one of the most important series in Japanese manga culture.
As for the film adaptation, one can observe good use of color, movement, music, representation of animals, narration... but the most notable aspect is its message of peace. The voice actors for the characters are: Tsukayama Masane as Leo, Baisho Chieko as Lyre, Ishimura Tomoko as Rune, Shiina Hekiru as Rukkio, and Kimotsuki Kaneta as Coco.
On the other hand, there is a curiosity that links it with 'The Lion King' from 1994. The latter was accused of being a replica due to similarities between the two films, which led to an uproar among Japanese and American media.
