Maria, a 17 year old Mayan woman, lives on the slopes of an active volcano in Guatemala with their parents, who arranged a marriage with a much older man than her and who Maria does not love. Although Maria dreams of seeing the city, her status as an indigenous woman does not allow her to go out into that modern world. When Mary begins to wonder what is behind the volcano meets a boy and she begins to feel a very strong attraction.
