Plot
'Itoiz udako sesioak' is a documentary that moves between Basque and Spanish to tell the story of Itoiz, the iconic music group. Juan Carlos Pérez, the band's leader, encounters a series of never-before-seen tapes that lead him to reflect and reconsider certain things. It mainly focuses on the dissolution of the band at its peak due to a clear shift in style towards pop, a genre he still renounces today.
Juan Carlos embarks on a cathartic journey to the essence of the group, reliving their beginnings, the start of a band that began as a progressive rock group in Mutriku (Motrico) in the 1970s. The experience becomes a reconciliation with his past.
Itoiz was a music group that was part of Basque rock, whose trajectory spanned from 1976 to 1988. For just over a decade, they dedicated themselves to creating and singing music in Basque. Two stages are distinguished in their existence: the first more experimental and with a more progressive rock sound, the second closer to pop. After their dissolution in '88, Juan Carlos Pérez began a solo career that he has continued to this day.
The documentary has been directed by Larraitz Zuazo, Zuri Goikoetxea, and Ainhoa Andraka, three women with a very interesting trajectory within the Basque film industry who have come together to tell the story of the beginning and end of a group that marked the musical landscape in Euskadi.
