This movie is set to be released 27 years after the original television release. In the book, it is mentioned that "It" returns to Derry every 27 years.

Pennywise's eyes
Whenever Pennywise's eyes look in two different directions, there are no special effects used for that. Director Andrés Muschietti had planned on using CGI to achieve this, and informed Bill Skarsgård of this, but Skarsgård then demonstrated that he could do it on his own, and that is what is used in the final film.
Derry, a town of terror
The main setting of the story is the fictional town of Derry, Maine. Derry has appeared or has been mentioned in many other Stephen King's works and film adaptations. The town is based on the real city of Bangor, Maine, where King and his family live.
The original cast 27 years later
In early production stages it was rumored that the child actors who played the characters in the original movie would reprise their roles as their adult versions. However this idea was cast aside because some of them wouldn't be available like the late Jonathan Brandis.
The opinion of Stephen King
About 6 months before the film was released, Stephen King (the author of the original novel) was shown a screening. Afterwards, he said that the film exceeded his expectations and that the producers had done "a wonderful job".
Another candidate for Pennywise
Will Poulter was the first choice cast actor for playing Pennywise/It but due to schedule problems Bill Skarsgard replaced him.
