Plot
This apocalyptic drama directed by Patricia Rozema shows a possible future when a massive power outage leaves mankind without electricity. Humans, who have depended on it for the last 140 years, are not prepared for such a catastrophe. In this situation we meet Nell (Ellen Page) and Eva (Evan Rachel Wood), two sisters who live with their father in a small house far away from any sign of civilisation. After these mysterious happenings related to the blackout, these characters will have to deal with several problems that will put to their survival skills to the test: from looters and diseases to conflicts between the members of their own family.

Although Ellen Page had not met Evan Rachel Wood prior to casting her in this movie, Max Minghella has been a long time friend of Ellen's and had worked with Evan a few years prior in Ides of March. The three bonded during filming.
¿Why did Ellen Page decided to make this movie?
Ellen Page was inspired to make the film after coming across the book written by Jean Hegland while browsing through a small store in her native Halifax. It was suggested to her by the woman working there and after she read it, she decided to produce a movie-version of the story.
