Plot
Baldwin's novel follows Tish, a newly engaged Harlem woman who races against the clock to prove her lover's innocence while carrying their first born child. It's a celebration of love told through the story of a young couple, their families, and their lives.
In author's own words, the film explain how "all black people in America were born in Beale Street", concerning the problems they found because of their skin tone.

Both film and novel's title make reference to the blues composed by W. C. Handy called 'Beale Street Blues' in 1917. Beale Street is in Memphis and the zone was the center of afroamerican music in there moment.
The personal story of the director
Barry Jenkins don't hesitate to admit the relation between the films 'If Beale Street Could Talks' and 'Moonlight'.
