Two hotels

Despite the movie's singular 'Hotel Mumbai' title, the 2008 Mumbai terrorists attacks actually involved two hotels, the Trident Oberoi Hotel and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.

Original transcripts

A significant amount of actual dialogue in the film was repeated verbatim being taken from original transcripts of actual intercepted mobile (cell) phone calls during the 2008 siege.

Point of view

David Coleman Headley, who was an American terrorist of Pakistani descent, is not mentioned in the movie. Director Anthony Maras has said that the film is told through the perspective of guests and staff as the attacks are unfolding, when details as to its planning were not known. The film's end text specifically mentions the role of Pakistan.

Conversation access

The filmmakers were given access to original transcripts of intercepted cell (mobile) calls between the ten terrorists and their handlers.
