Plot

'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York' is an American comedy directed by Chris Columbus and written by John Hughes. It is the sequel of the popular 'Home Alone', and also starrs Macaulay Culkin.

The action takes us once again to the McCallister's household, which in this occasion is preparing a trip to spend Christmas in Miami. Kevin (Culkin) is not convinced to travel to a tropical climate in this special time of the year, and it let his parents know. In the end, Kevin ends up grounded after making a scene in the school play, although his older brother Buzz was the one to blame.

The day of the trip, the family oversleeps again and arrive late to the airport. In a moment of confusion, Kevin separates from his parents and ends up boarding a flight to New York, where he lands alone. There, he uses his father's credit card to stay at the luxurious Plaza Hotel before trying to visit one of his uncles, the only relative he has in the city.

On the other hand, Harry and Marv, the dangerous thieves of the first movie, have escaped prison and are now on the loose in New York City, where they accidentally meet Kevin once again. When Kevin arrives to his uncle's house he finds a mansion in renovation where nobody is living. Kevin then uses the empty house to fill it with traps to catch Harry and Marv one more time.

The movie was a big box office hit at the time, grossing more than 359 million dollars worldwide for a budget of 28 millions. Even after being released at the end of the year, it finished as the third most grossing film of 1992, only behind 'Aladdin' and 'The Bodyguard'.

Trivia

Donald Trump's vanity saved a lot of money to the film

When 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York' was shot, Donald Trump was the owner of the Hotel Plaza in New York. Trump allowed to shoot in the hotel lobby as well as in one of the suites only in exchange for a cameo in the film, which was paid by the standard cameo fee.

Twin Towers gone and back

In one of the scenes, Kevin visits the Twin Towers after arriving at New York City. After the 9/11 attacks in 2001, the television broadcasts of the movie removed this scene out of respect for the victims. However, in 2018, the original cut was restored.

A complete experience at the Plaza Hotel

After the film success, the luxurious Plaza Hotel offered for years "The Home Alone Experience" where every Christmas guests could stay at a suite similar as the one in the movie, get presents related to the film and even go to a limousine tour to visit the shooting locations in the city.
