Hitlers Hollywood

One of the elements most used by Hitler and the Nazis during this black era of Germany was cinema as a way of propaganda. Almost a thousand films were made in this period, and very few were considered propaganda or entertainment without any political ideology behind. This documentary goes into these movies and the team that made them to try to decipher why these films and their power in the audience, an audience that had succumbed to a fascist ideology.

The director suggests that the Third Reich was essentially an immersive movie starring the German nation, produced and directed by Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. 'Hitler?s Hollywood' collects key films from the more than 1000 features the Nazis produced from 1933-1945: musicals, melodramas, romances, costume dramas, war films... The director, who is also a journalist continues the legacy that he left behind in his previous work as a filmmaker 'From Caligari to Hitler: German Cinema in the Age of the Masses', with a very similar topic.

The documentary is directed by Rüdiger Suchsland, and in it you can see several important members of the Nazi government, such as Joseph Goebbels or Hermann Göring, or even filmmakers and actors like Leni Riefenstahl, Ilse Werner or Zarah Leander.
