Hidden Strike

'Hidden Strike', or 'Project X-Traction' as it also known in some markets, is an action movie directed by Scott Waugh. It is a coproduction between China and the United States starring Jackie Chan and john Cena. The movie, shot in mandarin and english, has had a theater release in some countries, however in most of them it has been a direct-to-streaming movie thanks to a international distribution agreement with Netflix.

The movie is set in the Middle East, most precisely in the so called "Highway of Death" which leads to the Iraqi Green Zone, a danger free zone and widely guarded. Everything is set in motion when an oil refinery owned by a Chinese company is attacked by a group of mercenaries. Then, "Dragon" Luo Feng (Jackie Chan) must help evacuate a group of civilians using the aforementioned highway.

At the same time, Chris Van Horne (John Cena) is a former marine of the United States which accepts joining the mercenaries and confront Luo Feng, but his motives are well different of what it seemed at first.

'Hidden Strike' was shot in 2018 in Chine, with some zones of the country posing as Middle East locations. The film was initially going to be a coproduction between Chan and Sylvester Stallone. But Stallone bailed out in the last minute, and was replaced by Cena. Maybe because of this, the film has spent several years looking for a distribution company, until it has landed in Netflix. The movie was released without promotion and panned by critics, however it was the most watched film in the platform in its first weekend in 54 countries, including the United States.
