Happening

In France, in 1963, a bright young student with a promising future, Anne, discovers that she is pregnant.

With the finals closer and closer and a growing womb, Anne decides to act, even if it means confronting shame, pain and even going to jail for it.

According to its director and co-writer, Audrey Diwan, breathing played an important role in the film: "It's a film that plays a lot with "breathing". Always following that idea of plunging into the intimacy of the character. Her sighs of relief are a fleshly transcript of her emotions: either when Anne holds her breath, holds her breath, or when she lacks air. What does it mean to lose your breath or catch your breath?"

Anamaria Vartolomei, Sandrine Bonnaire, Luàna Bajrami, Pio Marmai, Anna Mouglalis, Kacey Mottet Klein, Louise Chevillotte, Fabrizio Rongione, Leonor Oberson and Louise Orry-Diquéro are the actors in the main cast of 'Happening'. In addition, Marcia Romano also wrote the screenplay.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by the author Annie Ernaux, who is very satisfied with the final result: "The only thing I could tell Audrey Diwan was: 'You've made a true film' ", reveals. "I can only imagine Anamaria Vartolomei playing Anne and, in a sense, playing me at 23. She is tremendously authentic and her performance matches everything I remember", she adds.
