Plot
Hlynur Pálmason, the Icelandic director behind films like 'A White, White Day', sets out to write and direct 'Godland', a feature film inspired by the first photographs found of Iceland and its people, which has been nominated in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. It follows the story of Lucas, a young Danish priest who embarks on an intense journey at the end of the 19th century to build a church in a remote part of Iceland, carrying a camera to photograph its population. However, Lucas will have to face not only the unforgiving landscape and its extreme climate but also the language differences and the relationships with the native population, especially with Ragnar, towards whom he will feel great hostility. At the same time, he will gradually lose the purpose of his mission and morals.
Pálmason repeats several of the actors and actresses who have appeared in his filmography, as is the case of the protagonists Elliott Crosset Hove, who plays the young priest, and Ingvar Sigurdsson, who plays Ragnar, as well as Vic Carmen Sonne and Ída Mekkín Hlynsdóttir. The rest of the cast includes Jacob Lohman ('Horsemen of Justice', 'Valhalla'), Hilmar Guðjónsson, Waage Sandø, Snæbjörg Guðmundsdóttir, Friðrik Hrafn Reynisson, Friðrik Friðriksson, and Gunnar Bragi Þorsteinsson.

Trivia
Wretched land
The title of the film in Danish (Vanskabte Land) Icelandic translates to something more like "wretched land" or perhaps "godforsaken land" rather than "Godland" in the English title.
