Free Color

'Free Color' follows Carlos Cruz-Diez, one of the world's most important kinetic-optic artists who, at the age of 94, aims to question what color is. The documentary moves away from being a biographical portrait of the genius of kineticism, who passed away in July 2019, to delve into one of his many projects: to detach color from its form, to distinguish color and matter, to liberate color, to finally access immaterial color.

Alberto Arvelo Mendoza directs the documentary, after having experience directing documentaries such as 'Guaco: Semblanza', 'Dudamel: El sonido de los niños' and 'Tocar y luchar'. He has also received the Latin Grammy award for best long version music video and won the audience award at the Malaga Festival for 'Cyrano Fernandez' and is now behind the cameras of 'Free Color', based on the script written by Leonardo Henriquez with the help of Graciela Moser, and Maria Elena Sucre.

It features appearances by Carlos Cruz-Diez himself, Ana Asenjo, Seamus Blackley, Liu Bolin, Jonathan Cohen, Alicia Méndez Cruz and Irene Méndez Cruz.

In its passage through festivals, 'Free Color' has won the statuette, the Jury Prize for Best Documentary at the Seattle Latino Film Festival and the award for Best Editing at the Savannah Film Festival.
