Reunion

This movie reunites John Carney with actors Jack Reynor, Don Wycherley, Kelly Thornton, Keith McErlean and Marcella Plunkett since his previous film Sing Street (2016). Plunkett was also in Carney's previous 2007 musical film, 'Once'.

For all mothers

In a Q&A with the director of the film in the Sundance Film Festival, John Carney said that 'Flora and son' was a movie dedicated to all mothers, similar to 'Sing Street' which was dedicated to all the brothers.
