Are fireworks round or flat when they explode in the sky? Norimchi, Yusuke and their friends can't get to an agreement regarding this business, so they are going to make good use of the summer festival to find out. They decide that they will go to the lighthouse of the small Japanese coastal city they live in to discover it there. In the meantime, Nazuna has more important things in mind. Her mother is getting married for the third time and is going to take her far from town, so she sets up a plan to scape from home. When Norimchi and Yusuke race in the pool, the young girl decides that she will invite the winner to join her on her runaway.
The film is an anime remake of the 1993 TV movie of the same name. It is codirected by Nobuyuki Takeuchi, who was key animator of various Studio Ghibli films such as 'Spirited Away' or 'Howl's Moving Castle'.
