Fireflies

Ramin, a gay man, escapes prison and oppression in Iran in a boat bound from Turkey to the Mexican port of Veracruz, away from everything and everyone he knows. Whilst he tries to gather the means to return to Turkey by working as laborer, Ramin must learn how to live without his loved ones. He starts discovering freedom in the exile and becomes friends with Guillermo, a Central American immigrant who encourages him to keep living his life away from his family and his country. The movie also tells the story about Leti, the receptionist in the hotel where Ramin is staying, as she faces the return of someone from her past that hurt her deeply: Ernesto.

'Fireflies', a film that revolves around how the immigration affects everybody in different ways, is written and directed by Bani Khoshnoudi ('Ziba') and the cast includes Arash Marandi ('A girls walks home alone at night'), Luis Alberti ('Narcos: México') and Edwarda Gurrola ('Solteras'). The movie was shown at the Morelia International Film Festival, International Film Festival of Rotterdam, Miami International Film Festival and Phoenix Film Festival, among others, since 2018. In 2019 it finally arrived in cinemas for the audience to enjoy and uncover the story of Ramin. The dialogue is predominantly English and Spanish.
