Plot

The actor and director Stanley Tucci presents us the life of Alberto Giacometti (Geoffrey Rush), the Swiss painter and sculptor. The story begins when in 1964 the artist invites the American arts critic and writer James Lord (Armie Hammer) to paint a portrait of him. A work supposed to last for a few days and that finally will take many more sessions, in which the writer will meet what is beyond the stubborn and impolite Swiss artist. 'Final Portrait' is the portrait of an artist, a biographic story about the friendship between two different men, which will tell the life of a genius with comic touches but hiding a drama about artistic talent and brings up a question: being a great artist is a blessing or a curse?

Trivia

"I don't like biopics"

Director Stanley Tucci claims not to like biopics, so he took some poetic licenses in order to create a different biopic, more like a deep vision of Giacometti's personality.

No acting

This is the first film Stanley Tucci directed which he did not act in.

Paris?

London doubled for Paris in the film because they couldn't afford to film in Paris. Filming took place over a week and a half and CGI was used to make it look like Paris. According to Tucci, it was cheaper for a small film to use CGI than to visit the real location.
