Father of the Milky Way Railroad

Based on the 2017 novel 'Ginga Tetsudo no Chichi' by Yoshinobu Kadoi, 'Father of the Milky Way Railroad' is the captivating biopic of the legendary poet and novelist Kenji Miyazawa, one of Japan's most beloved children's book authors, with works like 'Night on the Galactic Railroad', 'The Restaurant of Many Orders', and 'The Life of Budori Guski'.

In this film directed by Izuru Narushima, Masaki Suda plays the author, the eldest son of Masajiro Miyazawa, a wealthy moneylender. Kenji Miyazawa seemed destined to take over the family business when his father retired, however, instead of taking over the store, the free spirit of Kenji drives him to carve his own path with eccentricities such as studying agriculture or synthetic gemstones, choices that only baffle his family. Nevertheless, Masahiro always supports his son in all his unconventional hobbies and activities.

'Father of the Milky Way Railroad' is a story about the power of family and the unconditional paternal love even in the toughest times.

The cast includes Koji Yakusho as Masajiro Miyazawa, Nana Mori as Toshi Miyazawa, Kenji Miyazawa's sister; Maki Sakai, Min Tanaka, and Yûdai Toyoda. Izuru Narushima is known among other works for his films 'Kokô no mesu' and 'Solomon's Perjury'.
