This is Jeremy Irvine's first young adult adaptation film after turning down the roles of Peeta Mellark in the 'Hunger Games' and Tobias 'Four' Eaton in 'Divergent'. He previously stated that he didn't want the fame that comes with those type of roles.

Real locations

The film's director, Scott Hicks, and his wife live in a vineyard in Adelaide, South Australia. Harrison Gilbertson lives just down the road from them.
