Plot

Its director, Aki Kaurismäki, known for 'Crime and Punishment', presents the story of two lonely people who meet by chance in the night of Helsinki and try to find their first, only and last love. their lives.

His adventure toward achieving this desired goal is marred by the protagonist's alcoholism, lost phone numbers, and life's general tendency to put obstacles in the way of those who seek their happiness.

Ansa is single and lives in Helsinki. She works in a supermarket on a zero-hours contract, restocking shelves, then sorting recyclable plastic. One night she accidentally meets the equally lonely worker Holappa, an alcoholic . Against all odds and misunderstandings, they try to build a relationship. As a result, Holappa manages to control his addiction to alcohol.

It was selected as the Finnish candidate for best international film at the Oscar Awards 2024. It is the twentieth feature film by Finnish director and screenwriter Aki Kaurismäki. The film constitutes the conclusion of his so-called proletarian series, which began with 'Shadows in Paradise' (1986), Ariel (1988) and 'The Girl from the Match Factory' (1990) and was originally designed like a trilogy. The title refers to the French chanson Les feuilles mortes by Joseph Kosma and Jacques Prévert.
