Plot
Between 1907 and 1908, the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt created a painting that measures 180 centimeters by 180 centimeters and revolutionized the history of art. Titled as 'The Kiss', the artist uses a gold-tone fabric to add above it decorations and mosaics for giving as a result a couple passionately hugging each other. The work was received with great success, something atypical in the painter's works, which were usually criticized as childish and too erotic.
Gustav Klimt stands out for being one of the greatest figures of the 'Art Nouveau' artistic movement, a style that took sensuality and ancient and modern mythology for fusing them with each other. Modern literature has explained that 'The Kiss' could be an apology of the myth of Apollo and Daphne, where Apollo harasses the nymph and, upon kissing her, she turns into a laurel tree.
The documentary 'Exhibition on Screen: Klimt and The Kiss', directed by Ali Ray (known for the Frida Kahlo's and Mary Cassatt's documentaries) and Phil Grabsky, introduces the public into the creation of this work of art, the person who shaped it and the 20th century Austria. To do this, they will ask experts and artists for understanding the magnitude of this work.
