Plot
As Britain waded its way through the racial prejudice and political turmoil of the 1970s, four young black men came together to form The Real Thing, the soul and funk band that revolutionised pop funk and went on to have hits such as 'You To Me Are Everything', 'Can't Get By Without You' and 'You'll Never You What You're Missing'.
Though they were the first all-black band to have a number one single in the UK charts, The Real Thing were not exempt from the racism that continued to pervade Britain. Hailing from Liverpool, tabloids often referred to them as 'the black Beatles' or the 'other' four lads from Liverpool. In protest, they penned the song 'Children of the Ghetto' to speak out about the experience of being a black immigrant in Britain, cementing their status as a pioneering group of musicians that could make pop music both catchy and political.
In 'Everything - The Real Thing Story', original band members Eddy Amoo, Chris Amoo and Dave Smith are joined by some famous fans to discuss their rise from the streets of Toxteth to New York success and how they remain united five decades after their formation.
'Everything - The Real Thing Story' is narrated by Jacob Anderson ('Game of Thrones'). Simon Sheridan ('Respectable - The Mary Millington Story') writes and directs.
