Plot
Nola, a girl of Senegalese origin, arrives at the Canary Islands in a canoe. She will then discover the most defining corners in Canary Islands looking for the Canary father she never met.
This is the first feature film that shoots in the Island the migration problem and the first Spanish fiction movie with a black woman as it's main protagonist. The production team is Canary and Senegalese. Diarra Diouf makes here her debut in the big screen acting as Nala, the protagonist. Previously she had been in television series 'Kosta (The Paradise)' and 'Fuerza de paz'.
Directed and written by Armando Ravelo, who's previously directed 'La tribu de las 7 islas' and 'La piel del volcán'. Ravelo reflects about the past and the present of the archipelago putting the focus in the terrible migration drama.
The cast is made up also by Thimbo Samb, Álex García, Kira Miró, Yanely Hernández, Mingo Ruano, Lili Quintana, Mike Pérez, Elisa Cano, Paula Gala, Manolo Vieira, Omaira Castro, Alda Rivas, Alimatou Abdolaye Dio, Mouhamed Gaye, Bineta Samb, Fatoumata Fabiyaratou Kebe and Madala Tounkara.
'Érase una vez en Canarias' has been elected as Best Spanish Movie in the Sevilla Indie Film Festival in 2023 and the DIVERSITY Festival in Chicago, and as Best Director and Photography in the Tagore International Film Festival in La India.
