Empty Nets

'Empty Nets', is a German and Iranian film directed by Behrooz Karamizade, which follows the story of Amir and Narges, who love each other deeply, but their future as a couple on the coast of the Caspian Sea in Iran seems impossible. The restrictions imposed by tradition and social hierarchy make it difficult for them to build a life together. Therefore, they are forced to keep their relationship a secret.

Narges (Sadaf Asgari) belongs to an upper-class family, so to win over her parents and pay her dowry, Amir (Hamid Reza Abbasi) urgently needs money. Amir finds employment in a local fishery, where he becomes involved in the dangerous business of smuggling black caviar, a lucrative but risky means of earning an income. At the same time, Narges tries to delay the marriage that her family has arranged for her. Both face a world where corruption and the power of influential families govern the destiny of new generations. Can Amir and Narges resist these pressures and make their dreams come true?

The cast also includes Keyvan Mohamadi and Pantea Panahiha. The script was written by the director himself, while the cinematography was done by Ashkan Ashkani. Other key members of the team include Sharam Karimi as production designer, Anne Jünemann as editor, and Sebastian Tesch on sound design. The film has a soundtrack composed by John Gürtler and Jan Misere, with the participation of Saba Alizadeh.

The production was handled by BASIS BERLIN Filmproduktion, with co-production by Living Pictures Production and Rainy Pictures. Additionally, it received support from the German Federal Government, Hessen Film & Medien, and the German Federal Film Fund. Distribution is handled by Pluto Film Distribution Network.
