Emilia Pérez

'Emilia Pérez' is a French musical comedy directed by Jacques Audiard and starring the Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón. It is a loose adaptation of the opera of the same name by Audiard, who also wrote the screenplay. Clément Ducol and Camille are responsible for the film's musical production, which was shot entirely in Spanish. In September 2024, France selected Emilia Pérez as its candidate for the 2025 Oscars.

Manitas del Monte is the feared leader of a Mexican cartel who, eager to live the life he truly desires, hires lawyer Rita Moro Castro to fake his death. Thus, Emilia Pérez is born, a new self-made woman whom audiences will follow throughout Mexico as she searches for happiness.

In addition to Karla Sofía Gascón in the title role, Zoe Saldaña plays Rita Moro, Selena Gomez is Jessi Del Monte, and Adriana Paz plays Epifanía. The four women jointly won the Best Actress award for their work in the film at the Cannes Film Festival, while the movie won the Jury Prize.

Emilia Pérez has earned a prominent spot on the festival circuit, from San Sebastián to Toronto, and Busan. Following its success, Netflix secured distribution rights for the United States and the United Kingdom, while in other markets it will be released in theaters, such as in Spain, where it premieres on December 5.
