Plot
El Remolino is a little town in Chiapas, Mexico. Spanish director Laura Herrero Garvín takes us in this documentary on a trip to this Meximan community, that suffers floods every year due to the rise of the Usumacinta river. In there, we will meet Pedro and Esther, two siblings who fight to move forward. He claims to be "a princess by night and a man by day", and defends his sexual identity in a community that doesn't understand his desires. He is a target for criticism since he was very young, but that doesn't keep him from fighting to live his life under his own rules. Meanwhile, Esther suffers the weight of being a woman who takes on too many things. She breaks the barriers of what it means to be a woman there, because she is a businesswoman, a day laborer and she also likes documenting her life through a little camera. In this documentary, we will learn how their day to day is marked by Nature's cycles, and what it means to be one's self when in a place that doesn't allow you to.
