El amor y la muerte

Directed by Arantxa Aguirre, filmmaker of the acclaimed documentary 'Dancing Beethoven', in this documentary, Aguirre explores the life of Enrique Granados Spanish composer, pianist and pedagogue who was linked to the modernist movements and whose work 'Goyescas' is one of the most recognized. His life was marked by a vital torment that contributed to further boost his exceptional musical talent. The documentary deals with his fascinating life in the bohemian Barcelona of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as his continuous trips to Madrid and to foreign cities such as Paris, New York or Vienna. The film will tackle his extensive work, among which are compositions for solos of piano, for orchestra, chamber music and opera, as well as his life, which tragically ended, along with that of his wife Amparo, in the shipwreck of the ship Sussex in the English Channel to be torpedoed by the German army during the First World War. The documentary is a delicate film journey that features testimonies by artists such as Rosa Torres-Pardo, Evgeny Kissin, José Manuel Cañizares, Arcángel, Rocío Márquez, Carlos Álvarez and Nancy Fabiola Herrera, who pay homage to the maestro, considered one of the most important Spanish composers of his time.
