Eismayer

Sargeant Mayor Eismayer is the most feared instructor in the Austrian Armed Forces. Ruthless with his recruits and feared for his strict discipline, he represents the prototype of macho toughness and militar toxic masculinity. But this facade hides his side as a homosexual man, something that doesn't fit into what he understands as the perfect soldier. His world is shaken to the core when he meets Falak, a recruit who lives his homosexuality without shame and the man he will fall in love with. Eismayer will question his way of life, his morals and what the heart tells him. Will he choose to protect his armor of tough guy above everything, or will he be able to follow his biggest desire?

'Eismayer' is inspired on a true story. Generational prejudice, workplace sexual politics, the role of the LGBTI+ community in the military and toxic masculinity are explored in this movie that is the feature debut of director David Wagner. Written also by him, is produced by Arash T. Riahi and Sabine Gruber, with photography by Serafin Spitzer. The movie won in 2022 the Grand Prize in the Venice Film Festival. Starring Gerhard Liebmann ('A Day for a Miracle') and Luka Dimic ('Zima'), it also has Julia Koschitz, Anton Noori, Christopher Schärf, Karl Fischer and Lion Tatzber.
