Transforming the city of Lutz, Florida
Although the suburbs in the movie are based on Burbank, California, where Burton grew up, they have changed much since his childhood. That's why he decided to look for another location to shoot and the chosen one was the small town of Lutz, in the Tampa Bay Area, Florida. There, all houses were painted in one of four pastel colours and the windows were changed for smaller ones to give a more paranoid sensation.
Vincent Price's last scene
Vincent Price's role was going to be larger, but the actor was very ill with emphysema, so his role was cut short. The last scene he shot was the death of his character, which was also the last scene the actor starred before dying in real life.
Johnny Depp fainted while shooting
Because of the extreme heat as well as his bulky leather costume, Johnny Depp fainted during the shooting, in the scene where Edwards runs back home.
Inspired by a Tim Burton's drawing
All the idea for the movie is based on a drawing Tim Burton himself draw when he was a teenager. It was supposed to be the vision of himself as a teen, when we spent a lot of time alone and had problems to retain friendships.

One of the most acclaimed aspects of the film is the chemistry between leads Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder. In fact, besides of being in love in the movie, the also had an off-screen relationship during that time.

This is the first film where Tim Burton and Johnny Depp worked together and where they became friends. After that, Depp has become a flagship actor for Burton working on many of his films.
