Plot
Initially made for television, its aesthetic brilliance and intriguing narrative pulse made this first and cheap work of a very young Steven Spielberg appear on the big screen. Converted today almost into a cult film, it is a fast-paced story that tells the road chase to which a driver is subjected to his car ... by a mysterious truck that can not lose sight of. Personally I prefer the jaws to the fenders, but this is an essential first lesson of a masterful director.
'The devil on wheels' ('Duel'), tells the story of David, a driver trying to overtake a tanker does not imagine that the driver will take it as a personal offense. From that moment, the diabolical truck driver will subject David to a mortal persecution ...

Trivia
The killer
Steven Spielberg said that the multiple license plates on the front bumper of the truck suggested that the truck driver is a serial killer which "ran down other drivers in other states".
Inspiration
According to Richard Matheson, he was inspired to write the original short story "Duel" after an encounter with a tailgating truck driver on November 22, 1963, the day that John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
Prefix
The phone number Dennis Weaver dials to call his wife at the gas station is not the standard "555" movie prefix but, at the time, a valid number.
