Plot
Eddie Murphy plays Rudy Ray Moore in this movie based on a true story. After several failings in the show business, one day he feels like someone else on stage, and he decides to create Dolemite, an alter-ego that would eventually change his life for good, turning him into an infamous character known in the 70's. Dirty-mouth alter ego with a bunch of obscene stories to tell. But he wants to go further than selling albums too crazy for the mainstream radio to play and he asks Jerry (Keegan-Michael Key) to write a movie for Dolemite. A movie with kung-fy, car chases and Lady Reed (Da'Vine Joy Randolph), and exorcist that ends up being an unexpected comedian. During the production of the film they record, Moore will have to deal with the pretentious director D'Urville Martin (Wesley Snipes) and the fairly common problems that recording a movie usually brings.
'Dolemite Is My Name' is directed by Craig Brewer. The film stars Eddie Murphy as Rudy Ray Moore or Dolemite, Keegan-Michael Key as Jerry and Da'Vine Joy Randolph as Lady Reed. We're before a comedy drama that tells the story of a real person, Rudy Ray Moore, who adopted another personality, Dolemite, and got to be an icon for the next generations of rapers en comics that have described Dolemite as a big influence even in the next decades. The movie is made in a very hilarious punkie way, full of dirty words and unexpected moments as well as emotive.
