Plot

Based on true events, 'The Dog's Trial' tells the fascinating story of a lawyer and her client, a dog named Cosmos.

The French comedy film, directed by actress Laetitia Dosch in her directorial debut, is inspired by a real case in which a French man was taken to court for his dog's attacks, a process that even reached the European Court of Human Rights. Through this satire, Dosch explores the relationship between humans and animals, focusing on Avril (played by Dosch), a young lawyer specializing in defending animals. She takes on the challenge of defending Cosmos, a dog accused of biting and disfiguring a cleaner, with a history of only attacking women.

The trial raises important legal reflections on whether animals should be considered "objects" or "subjects" under the law. This dog will help the lawyer understand and accept how complex humans can be at times while dealing with the difficulties of getting people to stop despising animals.

Joining Dosch in the cast are actors such as Anne Dorval ('Mommy'), François Damiens ('The Bélier Family'), and Jean-Pascal Zadi ('Smoking Causes Coughing'), with the dog Kodi as the true star of the film. 'The Dog's Trial' was presented in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival and premiered in Spain at the Seville Festival.
