Plot
Through the eyes of the of the now survivors of the forced labor camp in Jiabiangou, Wang Bing, director of the acclaimed documentary 'Ms. Fang', exposes the truth about what truly went on in the Chinese "re-education" camps of the late 1950s., which have had so many people because of the violence he suffered in the fields of reeducation. 'Dead Souls' premiered on a special pass during the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Subsequently, the documentary, which has a total duration of 495 minutes (8 hours and 15 minutes) was released in French cinemas in three parts: 166 minutes, 164 minutes and 176 minutes respectively, the latter being the longest term. 'Dead Souls' is a co-production between China, France and Switzerland.
