Dancing the Twist in Bamako

In the 1960s, after Mali's independence, a young man named Samba travels around the country trying to convince people to embrace socialism. In the middle of his journey, he will meet a young woman named Lara, who dance the twist in a vibrant nightclub and with whom he will end up falling in love. After knowing the misfortune of her lover, force to marry a man she does not love, Samba flees together with Lara to the city of Bamako. There he will fight for his ideals of liberation and the healing of the country. However, Lara's husband is willing to find her, which adds another series of problems to their lives. Following the thematic line of the director, Robert Guédiguian tells the story of a young revolutionary, played by the actor Stéphane Bak, who fights for a social cause facing the problems of a corrupt government. 'Mali Twist' is the portrait of the time of a country that is in a process of deep political and social changes. Through the 129-minute of the feature film, Guédiguian aims to show many aspects of Malian society after the country's independence, as well as presenting the fascinating culture through yéyé music and Twist.
