Compartment Number 6

In the 1990s, on a Trans-Siberian train travelling through Russia to the Arctic port of Murmansk, two strangers meet in compartment number 6. They are Laura (Seidi Haarla), a Finnish student fleeing a mysterious relationship in Moscow. Her travelling companion is Ljoha (Yuriy Borisov), a Russian miner who follows her like a shadow. Throughout this icy journey from one end of the Russian region of Siberia to the other, the forced coexistence they are forced to live in a tiny carriage, where the tension is growing, causes a connection between the two that will change their perspective on life completely. It is based on the novel of the same name by Rosa Liksom, author of other books such as 'The Colonel's Wife', 'Dark Paradise' and 'One Night Stands'.

The film was screened in competition at the 2021 edition of the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize.He has participated in other competitions, such as the AFI Fest, the Toronto International Film Festival and the Valladolid International Film Festival. It has been defined by its director, Juho Kuosmanen, as an "arctic road movie". Previously, the filmmaker had only focused on short films, making the leap to feature films with 'The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki', which was the Finnish candidate to the 2016 Oscars. Compartment No. 6 would be his second film to exceed 60 minutes.
