Comandante

The year is 1940. The entire world is plunged into a devastating world war. Salvatore Todaro (Pierfrancesco Favino), captain in command of the Cappellini submarine of the Italian Royal Navy, navigates the deep darkness of the Atlantic Ocean. At one point during the journey, the Cappellini's navigators spot a merchant ship stopped and with its lights off in the middle of the infinite darkness of the night. The ship, known as the Kabalo, is a Belgian vessel loaded to the brim with ammunition and British weapons that, without saying a word, opens fire on Salvatore Todaro's submarine. The battle, crude and violent, ends with the Kabalo capsizing. However, Todaro is not seduced by the sweet taste of victory and decides to rescue the Belgian survivors, putting his life and that of his crew at risk.

Edoardo De Angelis directs this film written with Sandro Veronesi, and which stars Giuseppe Brunetti ('La vita bugiarda degli adulti'), Johan Heldenbergh ('The Broken Circle Breakdown (Alabama Monroe)'), Johannes Wirix (his first work), Massimiliano Rossi ('Gomorra'), Pierfrancesco Favino ('Angels & Demons') and Silvia D'Amico ('The Place').

Produced by Indigo Film, O'Groove, Rai Cinema, Tramp LTD, Vgroove and Wise Pictures, 'Comandante' will arrive in Spain, distributed by Alfa Pictures, on July 25, 2024.
