Plot
Close', the new film from the prestigious production company A24, is a Belgian coming-of-age about friendship. The film follows Léo (Edem Dambrine) and Rémi (Gustav de Waele), two thirteen-year-old friends from a bucolic Belgian village who are inseparable. However, one day the intense and beautiful friendship suddenly ends. After this painful reality, young Léo will approach Sophie (Émilie Dequenne), Rémi's mother, to try to understand what has happened.
The film is divided into three chapters, through which pass the seasons from summer to spring, each corresponding to a stage of the relationship between the young friends.
It is directed by Lukas Dhont and co-written with Angelo Tijssens. The two had previously worked together on the film 'Girl' (2018), for which they received numerous awards and accolades.
In its passage through festivals, 'Close' has had a great reception in Europe, particularly at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Grand Prix, the second-most prestigious prize after the Palme d'Or, and where its director Lukas Dhont was also nominated in two categories, Palme d'Or and Palme Queer. Among other nominations, it also won the Jury Prize at the Norwegian International Film Festival and the Best Film Award at the Sydney and Palic Film Festival.
