Chinas

At the start of a new school year, two Chinese 9 year old girls get in the same class. Everyone assumes they will become friends, but they have nothing in common. Lucía is a second-generation immigrant, she feels Spanish and just wants to blend in with her friends at school. She wish she had "normal" parents like all her classmates, because she's ashamed of her parents not speaking Spanish, working more than 14 hours in their store and not letting her do her birthday in Burger King. Xiang, the other girl, is adopted and wonders about her biological family; she doesn't feel Chinese, but it doesn't seem like her classmates accept her. The both of them will end up being vital for one another in the difficult process of finding their identities.

'Chinas' is written and directed by Arantxa Echevarría, who's previously directed films like 'Carmen and Lola', 'De noche y pronto' and 'The perfect family'. The cast includes Pablo Molinero ('The Plague', 'The Summer We Live'), Ella Qiu ('Los Artistas'), Leonor Watling ('Hable con ella', 'Mi vida sin mí'), Carlina Yuste ('Hasta el cielo', 'Chavalas') and Shiman Yang and Xinyi Ye in their cinematographic debuts.
