Casablanca Beats

'Casablanca Beats' follows Anas (Anas Basbousi), a former rapper who works with young people in a cultural center located in a working-class neighborhood of Casablanca (Morocco). Motivated by him and other teachers, students will try to free themselves from the weight of traditions to live their passion and express themselves through hip hop music and culture. 'Casablanca Beats' is a film that celebrates with vibrant energy the empowerment and exhilarating liberation of finding a voice and being heard.

Directed by Nabil Ayouch, 'Casablanca Beats' was presented in competition at the 2021 edition of the Cannes Film Festival and received the award for best music band at the Carthage Film Festival (Tunisia) that same year. It was also in competition at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in 2022.

The film, a French-Moroccan co-production, is written by Ayouch himself along with Maryam Touzani and features music by Mike Kourtzer and Fabien Kourtzer. Its cast is made up of a group of young people with no acting experience, including Ismail Adouab, Nouhaila Arif, Zineb Boujemaa, Meryem Nekkach, Mehdi Razzouk, Samah Baricou, Amina Kannan, Samah Baricou, Soufiane Belali, Abderrahim Errahmani, Hanane Hafssa and Abdelilah Basbousi, among others.
