Plot
'Carbon' takes place in Moldova in the beginning of the 90s decade, after the breakdown of the URSS and in a moment where the country is fighting for its independence. Dima, a tractor driver, wants to enlist in the troops to fight in the conflict in the border with Transnistria. Vasea, a war veteran from Afghanistan, decides to join him. But on their way to the front they are surprised to find a carbonized corpse. When they find the authorities, they ignore them and don't help them identify the body, so Dima and Vasea decide to give it a Christian burial. They will embark in an absurd journey (with the corpse) to discover his identity, in which they will have help from a priest that collaborates with criminals, a Mayor who is more interested in organizing an independence party and a police man worried about attending a wedding in two days.
The film is the debut of Ion Bords, Moldavian director who in 2017 created the company Kantora Film Production. In 2018 he produced and directed his first short film, 'Plus minus unu' ('One Less One More'), which won the Danzante Internacional Ópera Prima prize in the Huesca festival in Spain. 'Carbon' is written by Mariana Starciuc, who already collaborated with Bors in his first short film. The cast stars Dimitru Roman as Dima and Ion Vantu as Vasea, joined by Igor Caras-Romanov, Adriana Bîtca, Viorel Cornescu, Ion Coseru, Constantin Haret y Vitalie Vasilachi.
