Can You Ever Forgive Me?

'Can You Ever Forgive Me?' tells the true story of the once bestselling celebrity biographer Lee Israel (Melissa McCarthy), who finds herself without work as it becomes apparent she has lost her ability to keep up with current trends, tastes and topics. The story takes place during the active years of Israel's career, the 1960s, 70s and 80s in which she wrote about women like Estée Lauder and actress Katherine Hepburn.

Once without work and unable to get published, Israel's career takes a further turn for the worse when she begins forging letters from dead authors and actors in an attempt to make money. As suspicion rouses around the authenticity of the letters, aided by her trusty friend, Jack, Israel turns to stealing official letters from libraries and museums.
