Inspired by real facts
The film is inspired by real facts that happen to Buñuel when he moved on to Las Hurdes, Cáceres, to film his famous documental 'Land Without Bread' (1933). This documental saved him from the failed premiere of 'Age of Gold'. Extremadura and specially Las Hurdes was a dismal, poor and illiterate zone that few time later gets more impoverished and isolated because of the Civil War.
