Texas. The story of a very conscientious murder. Abby (Frances McDormand), married to Julian Marty (Dan Hedaya), desperately needs to escape her possesive husband. Who not only abuse her verbally but, physically too. Ray (John Getz), one of Abby?s work friends, decides to help her run away to Houston, where he plans to confess that he is in love with her.

Abby in turn falls in love with Ray, and the two try to keep their romance a secret, until one private detective takes a photo of them and the news of Abby?s unfaithfulness gets back to Julian. Obsessed and hurt over the infidelity, the husband and the real protagonist of the story prepares the perfect murder.
