Plot
'Bidasoa 2018-2023' is a feature-length documentary film that narrates the police control that occurred in France in summer 2018 in order to prevent the entry of migrants towards the rest of European countries that caused 10 deaths in one year. Between Irun and Hendaye, seven people drowned since April 2021 in the waters of the Bidasoa River and three others lost their lives in October 2021 run over by a train in Ziburu.
In addition to identifying activists on both sides of the river on behalf of the associations Harrera Sarea (Welcome Network) and Bidasoa Etorkinekin (The Bidasoa with the migrants), it also serves as a memorial remembrance of those who lost their lives, putting name, age, path and dreams as well as a deeper look into the stories of the victims.
This feature-length documentary is directed by Fermín Muguruza and has been elaborated in collaboration with the testimonies of musician Amets San Millán, photo journalist Gari Garaialde, member of the group El Bidasoa con los inmigrantes, Aintzane Lasarte, dancer Pilar "Janela", journalist, teacher and researcher Anaitze Agirre and worker and migrant of Ivorian nationality Essoh Roméo.
