Plot
'Best Before Death' is a documentary following Scottish artist Bill Drummond at the Kolkata, India and Lexington, North Carolina, USA stops on his world tour set to span twelve years (2014-2025), twelve cities and twelve countries. Drummond is famously a diverse artist, having sat at the helm of projects as varied as performing in music groups, working as a choirmaster and creating what he views as deliberately financially worthless art.
In 'Best Before Death', the seemingly pointless projects (such as baking cakes and shining shoes) that Drummond engages with take him into the heart of various communities as he attempts to create art that will exist only in the present moment whilst opening up honest conversations with the citizens of the towns and cities that he passes through and lights up with his radical brand of artwork.
'Best Before Death' is directed by Paul Duane (whose other impressive contributions to the documentary genre include 'What Time is Death?', 'While You Live, Shine', 'Natan', 'Very Extremely Dangerous' and 'Barbaric Genius') and produced by Duane alongside Robert Gordon ('Only Child', 'Best of Enemies', 'Stranded in Canton'), Finlay Pretsell ('All Aboard!', 'Norfolk', 'Cutting Loose') and Andrew Starke ('Krabi, 2562', 'Jesus Shows You the Way to the Highway').
