Plot
Mia Hansen-Løve's new feature film tells the story of an American filmmaking couple who retreat to the island of Fårö, where the Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, director of films such as 'Smiles of a Summer Night' and 'A Lesson in Love', once lived. The reason for this trip is the need for both of them to find inspiration to write their next films, which they are trying to find in the place that inspired him. As the summer progresses and their fascination with the island's mysterious landscapes grows, the border between reality and fiction soon blurs.
The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021, and was also nominated for Best Film at the Seville Film Festival. Among the achievements of its director, Mia Hansen-Løve, is the Silver Bear at the 2016 Berlinale for the film 'L'avenir', as well as the Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival for 'Le père de mes enfants'. It stars Vicky Krieps ('The Invisible Thread'), Tim Roth ('The Hateful Eight'), Mia Wasikowska ('Alice in Wonderland'), Anders Danielsen Lie ('The Worst Person in the World') and Joel Spira ('Easy Money'). It is produced by Arte France CInéma, Barnstormer Productions, CG Cinema, Dauphin Films and Film Capital Stockholm, among others.
