Plot
'Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché' tells the story of pioneering female filmmaker Alice Guy Blaché, who over the course of her career made hundreds of films both in France and the United States despite the film industry being hugely male-dominated at the time, during which most women were encouraged to remain in secretarial or domestic work. Guy-Blaché refused to adhere to convention: she led productions, revolutionised cinema and founded her own film studio in New Jersey. Even with these incredible achievements to her name, however, she is often forgotten by history, with her male assistants or leading actors receiving the credit that is rightfully hers.
This documentary delves deep not only into Alice Guy-Blaché's impressive career but also into the history's tendency to veer towards sexism and write influential women like Guy-Blaché out of the history books. By piecing together academic work, familial relics and Guy-Blachés personal belongings, Pamela B. Green works to restore Guy-Blachés name in cinematic history where it belongs.
'Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché' is narrated by Jodie Foster ('The Silence of the Lambs'). Pamela B. Green ('Compact Only') directs and writes alongside co-writer Joan Simon.
