Plot
Caitlin (Laura Harrier, 'Spider-Man: Homecoming') is an American-Scottish student studying art at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art under critical teachers (played by Tamsin Egerton 'Love, Rosie' and Shauna Macdonald, 'The Descent') Reeling after the loss of her father, she returns back to university study with her energetic best friend Hannah (Bria Vinaite, 'The Florida Project') and tries to get back into the rhythm of school, though in reality she just spends a lot of time staring at blank canvas and searching for an artistic voice to call her own in time to enter a piece into the imminent degree show. Caitlin struggles to juggle the pressures of school with a sense of responsibility for her mother Mary (Kate Dickie, 'Game of Thrones'), who has turned to alcohol following the loss of her husband. Caitlin's growing anger at the world around her threatens to rupture both her friendship with Caitlin and her future as an artist as she desperately searches for a sense of balance in both her artwork and her life.
'Balance, Not Symmetry' is directed by Jamie Adams ('Black Mountain Poets') and is co-written by Adams and Simon Neil, with Scottish music group Biffy Clyro acting as creative collaborators with both the story and the soundtrack.
