Plot
Martin Ward (Edward Rowe, 'Delicious', 'Kernow King's Poldark') is a cove fisherman living in the county of Cornwall, currently forced to do his job without a boat, as his brother, Billy (Martin Ellis), requires it to take tourists out on day trips with much of the economy of the coastal village relying on the tourism industry. Instead, Martin and his son, Neil (Isaac Woodvine), attempt to fish by hand with a net and a single lobster trap, selling their catches to local customers.
Martin's already complicated lifestyle on the Cornish coast is complicated when a family of "outsiders" move into his late father's cottage by the beach, living there during the summer and renting it out to tourists for the rest of the year. Martin is irritated when they decorate the house with stereotypical nautical wares and refuse to let him park his truck on his father's former grounds, whereas his son is drawn to their daughter.
'Bait' is a drama that explores the impact of gentrification on individuals and communities alike. Mark Jenkin ('The Road to Zennor', 'The Essential Cornishman', 'Dear Marianne') writes and directs. Joining the cast are Mary Woodvine, Simon Shepherd, Georgia Ellery, Jowan Jacobs, Giles King, Chloe Endean, Stacey Guthrie and Tristan Sturrock.
