Plot
'Baghdad In My Shadow' is a film set in the city of London, in a very specific place that works as a meeting point and a kind of shelter for many Iraqis who have been exiled to this city. This place is a fashionable café called 'Abu Nawas' and it is also located in a key area for these people, being very close to the Salafist mosque. This café is a safe place for so many artists, communists and homosexual people from Iraq, who share in this space their individual wishes, projections for the future and their desire to become free people and also leaving behind their past in the city of Baghdad, which they come from, and finally living the life they want for themselves.
Suddenly, one day a religious fanatic that is also a nephew of a poet called Taufiq, decides to attack some of his uncles's friends, starting a whole series of events that will be a turning point and will change the lives of many people forever. This also will lead to the clash between different ways of life, with modernity confronting tradition and a religious conflict also taking place then.
The film is directed by Samir, also responsible for the script together with Furat al Jamil. The film's cast includes
Haytham Abdulrazaq, Waseem Abass, Daniel Adegboyega and Kerry Fox.
